Soaking up culture and sun in Ocean Grove
Once you've toasted yourself to a nice, golden brown, you can soak up local culture at the Centennial Cottage, a "living history" museum in a Swiss Chalet-style building from the 1880s. Here, you'll learn about the town's beginnings as a Camp Meeting _ sort of like an all-ages Protestant summer camp _ and see how the town's congregation lived during the 19th century. Families can enjoy the rides, games, and entertainment at the nearby Asbury Park Boardwalk _ or you can catch a live organ performance at the Great Auditorium, home to 1 of the world's largest pipe organs.
It's all about that beach in Ocean Grove
It's not for nothing that the town's called Ocean Grove, and you'll want to make as much time as you can for sunbathing along the Atlantic coast. A quieter take on the Jersey Shore, you'll find nearly a mile of sandy beach, as well as regular kite flying and sandcastle competitions, and enough beach volleyball to put the cast of "Top Gun" to shame. Later, you can explore the shops and cafes of Downtown Ocean Grove, or hit up the tennis and shuffleboard courts at the lakefront Ocean Grove Park.
The season is the reason in Ocean Grove
Ocean Grove's climate is humid continental, which means warm, damp summers and cool winters, with regular wet stuff throughout the year. Average summer highs hover around the low 80s in July and August, and thunderstorms are fairly common, so pack that umbrella! Spring and fall are decidedly crisp, and winters are mild, with average highs in the 40s from December through February. Summers are the busiest time of year in Ocean Grove, and you're most likely to scoop up a great deal on an Ocean Grove vacation rental between late fall and early spring.
We're just coasting along in Ocean Grove
A decidedly suburban community, Ocean Grove itself is relatively dense, with plenty of residential neighborhoods, municipal buildings, and a large, walkable downtown area. On the east side of town is nearly a mile of broad, sandy beach along the Atlantic Ocean, and a beachside boardwalk offers plenty of opportunities to spot the numerous gulls, terns, and other bird species that abound in the area. To the north, Ocean Grove is separated from Asbury Park by Wesley Lake, while Fletcher Lake borders the Bradley Beach neighborhood to the south.
